Our Parents

In October I went home and tried to chase down more photos of Dad. I guess I do it at least once every year, just to see what turns up. This year it was Dad in preppy gear and hanging out in Chinatown.

Its been very important to see their past. Their histories enthrall me and I feel inspired to love them more when I know more.

For my Brother

This entry is for my Brother, so we can remember our parents.

Its important to acknowledge the past so we be in the future. I came across this important little poem last year while rummaging around level zero of the library, a dark and dusty place full of books written by men with good beards and bald heads.

I've kept it close, please clink on the poem to view.

Remember: our parents needed love too.

It has been one of my wishes that my thesis tells the story of my Father and his death, as well as the redemptive factors trust worthy people, and extensive networks of friends have buffered me from my own suicidal ideations (don't be shocked, nearly half the population of New Zealand experiences them every year).

So now, it is estuary of social history and social epidemiology that my thesis resides. A few good papers have finally come my way to pull everything together- these papers were published late 2010. I almost didn't find them until I attended a histories of suicide lecture at Victoria a few weeks ago (random).

Right now my thesis has 14 pages of references, but all together I've read well over 600 papers. I may not be a quick academic, but I am thorough.

Walking Elephants

We made elephants and rode them because we so excited its friday. Which seat should I take?

Going up North to Welcome the New Year

Up North was a good experience.

There was a lot of beer pong and places of unrevised beauty, straight up New Zealand nature.

The picture of people huddled in the sand are singing their toes in natural hot springs (that you can dig into).

The New Year was welcomed with lots of new things.

There was a bit of fog on the way there.

Being at the Coats

We did lots of great things on their ranch pre and post New Year. We at meat on top of mountains, we rode horses, we sat together.

Images of Christmas Day

The dogs in New Zealand went everywhere with us on the day Christ was born. This day was full of life.

The sky opened up as I snapped images of country passing by. We ate well. The only thing missing was my family. I cried when you all sang in chorus 1000s of miles away.

You were missed.

1000 words of Summer

I had an interesting summer, worth a lot of words. So I won't bore you, and I'll just post images. Sorry I didn't write for a while, just busy doing other things.

*much higher quality if you click on them because these are film images, click on the question mark. Enjoy!
